Jeffrey Zeldman: 20 years of Web Design and Community from lynda.com on Vimeo.

Watch more documentaries like this at lynda.com/vimeo.

Who is Jeffrey Zeldman? The “Miles Davis of web design”? “Godfather of the web”? Or simply “your friend on the Internet”? For people who make websites, Zeldman is all of these and more. He’s been a guiding voice in web design since the earliest days of the Internet, leading the charge in the fight for web standards. He’s an educator whose businesses—A List Apart, An Event Apart, and A Book Apart—are extensions of his basic instinct to share his best ideas. He’s also a community leader that other designers look to for inspiration. This film is an intimate portrait of a man who has helped shape the web but isn’t recognized by most of the people who use it everyday. Learn how he evolved his influential mailing list, how he convinced Netscape and Internet Explorer to support HTML and CSS, and what he’s doing to pass the torch to the next generation.

Tina Roth Eisenberg: 5 Rules for Making an Impact from 99U on Vimeo.

Tina Roth Eisenberg was chugging along in her career as a designer… and then her daughter was born. She realized she had not yet become the kind of woman she had hoped her children would know. She immediately delved into a career as a serial entrepreneur that now includes an impressive group of “labors of love.” In this talk she shares five rules that have helped her launch businesses like Creative Mornings, Tattly, and Studiomates, among others.

Each was a side project that stemmed from a personal frustration. “I have a rule: If I keep complaining about something, I either do something about it or let it go,” says Eisenberg. The result: a group of projects that reflect the values dear to Eisenberg, most importantly using business to positively impact the lives of others.
Whether it’s through having a confetti drawer, keeping sane hours, or building environments that cultivate enthusiasm, Eisenberg urges us all to judge our success with the happiness and personal growth of those around us. “While I really love my work, my work is not me,” she says.

About Tina Roth Eisenberg
Tina Roth Eisenberg, a Swiss born and raised graphic designer, runs four “side-projects gone businesses” out of DUMBO, Brooklyn; a collaborative co-working space called Studiomates, a global, monthly lecture series called CreativeMornings, TeuxDeux the simple to-do app and Tattly, a design-y temporary tattoo shop. Tina is often referred to as Swissmiss after her popular design blog which is also the name of her Twitter handle.

Neurocomic trailer from Neurocomic on Vimeo.

What are our brains made of? What happens in our brains when we think, feel, see, hear or touch?
Neuroscience is receiving increasing public attention, as our society faces the complex problems of ageing diseases and mental disorders. The medium of comics has repeatedly proved incredibly efficient as education material, for its clear yet informal approach. Comic artist Matteo Farinella will collaborate with neuroscientist Dr. Hana Ros of University College London to create Neurocomic. A graphic novel that takes the reader on an exciting and visually captivating adventure through the brain, populated by quirky creatures and famous neuroscientists. Giant squid, talking sea slugs, mysterious trap doors, submarines, parachutes and underwater battles transport the reader on a fantasy journey that fascinates and helps them to understand how the brain works.

The book will be released in the UK in 2013, together with a short documentary by director Richard Wyllie, who is following the process of collaboration behind the book, in order to explore the interaction between science and drawing. The project is fully supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award.

A chronological journey from the Beatles’ use of the Mellotron in the 60s to the sample dense hiphop and dance music of the 80s and 90s. Each break is represented by a vibrating vinyl soundwave exploding into various tracks that sampled it, each re-use another chapter in the modern narrative.
